Going around and around…

There was a time, in the dim and distant past (2013/14) when Brexit and Trump weren’t things I used to swear by an excellent photo app called KitCam.   Unfortunately, this app is no longer available for the iPhone and I’ve moved on with my photographic practice.   However, as a result of trying to sort out my archive (see recent posts) I have come across the images once again and they have inspired me to seek out another photo app to help me make images on my iPhone.   After much searching (not really true at all but now a days what is truth – ask Rudi) I have decided to use to adopt the path of least resistance – I’m going to use the Adobe Lightroom app and see where that takes me.   So, drum roll please,  ladies and gentlemen I give to you the first image produced by this new combination of iPhone and Lightroom app:

I know exciting isn’t it!

There be dragons….

After spending an excellent day in north London we found ourselves in trees of the Ashridge Estate, Hertfordshire.   This may well mean nothing to an awful lot of people – it didn’t to me until today.   However, many millions of people around the world have walked through these woods – although they would never have known this.   Perhaps if I mention that  two of the most famous film studios in the world are within 20 miles of the woodland:  Pinewood – (home of just about every blockbuster over the last 50 years) and Leavesden – (home of Harry Potter and many more) you will realise you too probably have seen these woodlands   Anyway according the Wiki these woods have been used in many many movies over the years – including Harry Potter and the Goblets of Fire where I’m sure they were used for Harry’s introduction to the Dragons by Hagrid.   The only reason I mention it is because there was a series of production caravans in one of the enclosures – so oneday we might see the woodlands once more.

On top of the world…

In the great scheme of things the hill isn’t that high but as with most things context if king.  From the top of the hill you can see for miles around and on a late summer afternoon, with a gentle wind blowing, it can really be an enjoyable experience.

Learning on the go….

As I have bitched about in the past few weeks I have been trying to sort out my aging iMac to try and ring just a bit more life out of it before I have to bite the bullet and say goodbye.   This has meant a lot of techy stuff and and even greater amount of housekeeping.   By the end of yesterday I had had enough of all this so Imade these two little drawings to relieve the boredom/stress of it all.

Clearing up…

For a series of complicated interconnected reasons I have been wading through my back catalogue over the past few days.   As I did that I have found a few images that I thought worth giving a breath of freash air.   Enjoy.

Jessica and running out of RAM…

I have an ancient iMac that helps me produce all my digital output and just recently it has started to run out of puff when working with some of the very large files and new software.   In a very real way my creative efforts mirror this problem and I don’t seem to be able to create images with pencil and camera at the same time: One users up all of my creative juices to the detriment of the other.    This leaves me feeling I have neglecting the other.   So I made the painting of Jessica as a direct result of my photographic work – the image had been started a couple of weeks ago and then I abandoned it.   yesterday I came back to it and managed to finish it off.

In the meantime I visited the ever rewarding Hidcote Manor.   Life is hard.

Banging a Fan Boy Drum…

I’m afraid I’ve become a particular kind of bore – an Apple Fanboy.   I can’t help myself when I see the quality of the images that the latest iPhone helps create.   These were taken yesterday at the Pia Camil exhibition at the Nottingham Contemporary.   To say that the light was challenging is an understatement yet the camera came through with flying colours.

Now I’m sure that the latest Samsung can produce images just as good – but I don’t use a Samsung and so all I can write about is the iPhone.   It is coming up to 10 years since I bought my first iPhone and much of that journey has been documented on this blog.   I suspect I may well get around to making a book to celebrate this decade.

All in a morning’s….

I never really understood just how much Ernst Haas has influenced my photography until really quite recently.
