Oh she’s here again….the woman with a child in her eyes. She is very understanding but totally unobtainable….
I haven’t got the first clue what that means…and I wrote it. Oh it is wonderful how the brain works. Pip Pip.

Second session on the Playground of the Midlands project – beautiful day, good company and decent food – Perfection. If you are ever in the area then it is worth visiting the Thrussington Village Shop for a nice cup of tea and piece of cake!
For a different view on the same day why not check out David Manley’s blog post.
Over the past few days I have been consuming a strange bag of creative dishes. Earlier this week I watched the rather enjoyable movie Man Up starring Lake Bell (the link gives you a feel for what I mean) and Simon Pegg. It is hardly a groundbreaking Rom Com but that doesn’t prevent it being highly enjoyable watch with Ms Bell’s English accent being almost perfect. However, Lake is also the one big problem with the film. Her performance is great but we are asked by the filmmakers to believe that someone as attractive as Lake Bell would have great difficulty finding a date. I know she has been damaged by a previous relationship but the conceipt does take some swallowing. If you can get over this problem then the movie romps along with all the usual capers to the not unexpected conclusion.
At the same time I am also listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. I mentioned recently we had a Potter fest and watched all of the movies which lead me to listen to the this book. It also inspired me to draw Narcissa Malfoy which doesn’t really match too closely the description in the book. However, neither does Helen McCrory depiction in the film so I guess I’m in good company of sorts.
I suspect there are going to be a lot of people claiming to be Leicester City fans from now until the end of the season – here is another one. I, like most of the other fans, won’t have been to a match in a while – I stopped going for professional reasons a long time ago but I still managed to see many games in the 1980’s and early 90’s. The last game I actually attended was the Leicester v Spurs match in the 1994/95 season. However, a sign of a club getting under your skin is which club’s result do you check for first? For me it has always been Leicester. This doesn’t make me true Blue but it does indicate that I have been following them for a while now.
So will they do it? Will the City actually win the Premiership? It really is far too early to come up with an answer to that but they took a huge step forward. That being said I now believe…yes they are going to win the whole thing. Am a fool on the hill? Only time will tell. Whatever happens this will have been the most incredible season in most people’s living memory a magical mystery tour if ever there was one . At the moment we all do live in a blue and white kop.
Richard is better known to history as Richard the Lionheart but in truth he probably felt more at home in Anjou or Aquitaine than he ever did as King of England. It is a cheap trick I know but it does underline the complex relationship that England does have with the continent of Europe
Over the weeks ahead until the unnecessary referendum on British membership of the European Union (EU) it might be worth considering the contradictions of Richard. It is only the English who seem to have a problem with Britain’s membership. In fact it is fair to say only a smallish proportion of the population have a problem. Unfortunately that small proportion forms the current British government and so we a going to go through this farce for what purpose I am not entirely sure.
As yet I have not heard one argument that might suggest the leap into the unknown is worth it. Don’t get me wrong there are so many things wrong with the EU but Britain leaving the organisation isn’t going to sort any of those problems out. The only difference is that we will have zero influence on how they are sorted out as we scream and shout on the side lines. It would be foolhardy to think that when solutions are found for these problems they will not affect Britain as a significant proportion of our trade, and therefore well being, is with the EU so it is Britain’s best interest to best interest to have as much say as possible. Should we vote to leave then our voice will have the same weight as Norway or Switzerland.
To the rest of the world Britain is part of Europe, to many who live on the islands of Britain Europe is a remote place you can see from atop the white cliffs of Dover on a clear day. This of course was much the same view of Richard the Lionheart only in reverse – England might be part of his realm but he never felt it was part of him. Lets hope in the not too distant future sane voices prevail and this Europe nonsense can be put to bed once and for all. Somehow I doubt it.
P.S.
Just to show you how multicultural Britain now is there is a good proportion of the British population who wouldn’t see Richard as a national hero but rather as a disgrace. I sit somewhere towards the latter position but would observe one thing – he never would have considered himself English, let alone British and had little time for England other than to raise money for his foreign wars which we continue to pay for today.
Still on a PRB fix at the moment. There is one painting above everything else that the original members created that I just can’t get enough of – an unfinished portrait of Jane Morris as the Lady of Pity. Morris was the wife of William Morris and was out of reach to Rosetti or perhaps not really as the relationship was, as they say, complicated.
So what do you do in the dentist waiting room? Me I draw so you can decide whether the natural angst felt going to the dentist can be seen in this face. Later in the day I had turned all PRB – interesting how things change during the day.
Having just finished a massive Harry Potter film fest I have started watching the hours of bonus material. Most of it is interesting for mainly the technical aspects of making a movie (although I suspect making a Harry Potter movies is probably unlike making any other movie with the exception of perhaps Star Wars).
In one of the bonus items JK Rowling says that the actors, other than Daniel Radcliffe, were quite how she envisaged the characters appearing which lead me to think a little a bit how I imagined the lead characters. So after several minutes of thought I give you my version of Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.
