The other day I was walking around a garden centre when radio station they were playing in background started to play Roxanne by The Police. I was suddenly aware of the fact that this song was fifty year’s old. (Actually that is not quite true. The song was written in 1977 and first released in 1978 – at least according to Wiki)

I then also noticed that there was a young lad dancing to the song which he clearly knew. Gordon Sumner (Sting) is 74 years old yet he still has an affect on the latest generation. That says a lot about the power of music. I fear, I don’t really know enough about the subject to have any firm opinions, that music produced today might not have such longevity. Unfortunately, I suspect I won’t be around to say ‘told you so‘ in 50 years time!
