House guests

Over the past three days we’ve acquired a couple of house guests. They appear to be racing pigeons who have got lost. Compared to their wild cousins they just sit around all day expecting to be feed… needless to say we oblige…like all house guest not sure when they’re going to leave!

Did Florida Accidentally Ban All Computers and Smartphones?

I just love Florida – have taken many holidays there – but if this is true then there are an awful lot of unprosecuted (not sure if that is a word) criminals in Florida.

Clearing the detritus from the iPhone

It’s that time of year but my iPhone is slowly clogging up with image I have captured so this afternoon I’m clearing the harddrive…whilst I’m waiting for the files to upload to dropbox I thought I’d see what images I haven’t worked on from this year and I came across this. Enjoy

I don’t care that Andy Murray won at Wimbledon

As I sit here looking at my iPad I wonder what is wrong with me. All the papers are in celebration, so are the radio channels, well at least the one I listen to, and no doubt all the TV channels are the same. Andy Murray won the men’s title at Wimbledon and we should all rejoice. But I just don’t care. I have nothing against Murray as a person, I don’t know him but I’m sure he is a perfectly normal human being. I don’t want to down play what he has achieved which is a personal triumph and almost impossible to achieve, I would guess that since Wimbledon started less than 100 men have actually done what he has done that is 100 out of 3.5 billion or so men which is as close to a definition of impossible as you’re going to get. What I find mind numbing is the assumption that we, that is Britain, should all care about this and rejoice at the great feat and if you don’t then there is something wrong with you.

We get this all the time these days. Weather forecasters that tell you what to feel about the weather and how to react rather than just telling you the forecast…”another lovely day…” or “…you’ll need to wrap up warm today…” and so on. I don’t need to be treated as a young child just tell me the details and let me decide which doesn’t seem to be the case.

A much greater British sporting achievement took place in Germany yesterday where three British cars came 1,2 and 3 in the German F1 GP. F1 generates billions of pounds for the economy, it is at the cutting edge of so many things that are economically important and we as a country are really really good at it. If American has a Silicon Valley then Britain has the Silverstone cluster, not as snappy I know but equally as valid. Within 40 km of the track are virtually all the F1 teams as well as their main engine supplier Mercedes. Whilst the drivers are important the cars and the team are much more so. Put a great driver in a poor car and you get a poor result – ask Jenson Button.

So I wish Andy Murray well and I’m happy for him but would the country please stop pretending that we even care about tennis. I know this is a forlorn hope because every year we get it and every year I have to put up with the slushy nonsense coming from the BBC and wonder why I’m the only one who just doesn’t give a dam about Wimbledon. Thank The Lord it is over for another year. Only 364 days to go ARRGGAGHH

I’ve just got to say this….

Maybe it is the heat, I’m not a great heat lover, but having spent most of the afternoon watching the Tour de France I think my head is about to explode. All afternoon I was told by the British Eurosport’s commentator that Chris Froome was in real trouble…it was only a matter of time before MovieStar, another pro team, riders would take advantage of Froome being exposed by a poor performance from his Sky Team, I have yet to see what happened as I didn’t switch on until half way into the stage, and what happened in the end. Nothing. Froome seemed to comfortably, a very relative term when talking about pro cycling, deal with anything that was thrown at him. Could it be that the other riders were just as knackered as the Sky Team and whilst they might have more riders in today’s stage simply were not able take any time from Froome?

It was worse because no matter how much I shouted at the TV they still kept peddling the same line. I would switch to ITV’s live coverage if their team of commentators weren’t worse, by a very long margin in my opinion. So for those of you who don’t know or probably don’t care Chris Froome, after being isolated all day whilst climbing up many 1000’s of metres of mountain roads, is still at the top with exactly the same time advantage as when he started. There are many reasons why he may not win this year’s Tour but on today’s showing not having a team around him to support him, doesn’t appear to be one of them.

Tomorrow is a rest day so perhaps things might calm down on the commentary front, I doubt it, so I’ll be shouting at the TV a lot over the next couple of weeks! Oh the things you have to suffer when you’re an armchair sports fan.
