Project LV One – Day 48 – So this is why I subscribe to Creative Cloud…

Laugharne Castle

I know, I know it is a bit of a fatuous comparision but a valid one – the same person, i.e. me, worked on the image using an iPhone 5s and then worked on the same image using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.  I’ll let you decide which is the better image but for the record I think the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) version wins hands down.

Of course the iPhone image was made on the move whereas the CC was created in my digital studio and took around about half an hour to create but the one thing is clear.  If you get the right conditions the Pano function of the iPhone does create a wonderful starting point from which to make an impressive image.

Project LV One – Day 46 – What kind of artist am I?

Mickey Mouse Doodle

This is a thought that has been rumbling around in the back of my head for sometime and I might have set forth some thoughts on this in the past.  The reason why this has come to the fore again just now is because I went to the end of year show at the Loughborough School of the Arts.  As I walked around it became apparent to me that whatever they were producing, and I am not judging on their individual merits, they certainly aren’t really producing the art that would want to or probably could have done.   I got the distinct impression that figurative art was not something that is encouraged at Loughborough.  Now I am well aware that may well not have been the case as it was not the choice of the artists there.  Nonetheless, it was clear that what I produce is not what the young artists of the day want to make.

I have realised for sometime that tend to doodle than make considered pieces.  This may be because I am coming to this whole area at a much later age and view art as something I enjoy making, no matter what the standard might be, and that is it.   I have no ambition to exhibit my work beyond what I might show on this blog and certainly don’t want to make any money out of it.  This is where this doodle I made this afternoon comes in.  I really enjoyed making this and this is as far as I want to take it, I’m aware that should I want to take it any further I might have copyright problem, but I am happy with it.  Perhaps one day I might want to go further but I doubt it.  In truth I enjoy what I do and I have the good fortune not to need to take these things any further.  I was told a story recently of a man who thought he might make a name for himself as an artist only to find that he just hadn’t got what it takes, for whatever reason – and that is a whole other discussion, and got very disillusioned about this.  I find that very sad.  I make my art for me and as long as I’m happy with what I make I don’t have to please any one else.

Project LV One – Day 45 – Catching Up

Newgale Beach Still trying to catch up with things from my trip to west Wales.   Here is the wonderful Newgale which, like most of west Wales, suffered during the winter storms.  Still the summer is just around the corner and lets hope they have a great season – might help them  start to get over the winter.

Project LV One – Day 44 – Student Show

Oh the joys of attending final
Degree shows… Actually it is quite interesting if a little confusing – you are surrounded by over excited as well as over Ernest young adults who want to have creative career. Some of them may succeed but most may find other things to pay the bills.

Anyway good luck to them all and may they succeed in whatever they do.

Project LV One – Day 43 – Hi Fidelity

20140605-Photo 05-06-2014 12 56 50

On the final day of my latest cultural tour of Britain we stopped off at Bristol.  This was a first for me as I had never properly visited the city before.  I had passed through the city when I was young and had had a business meeting on the outskirts the city itself was a mystery.

One of the shops I visited was a music store that could almost have been out of the movie High Fidelity.  This is the first time I have been in such a store for a very long time.  To add to the whole retro feel the chap behind the counter, perhaps the John Cusack character in the movie, started to play Burlesque by Family, a local band who I really liked in the 1970’s.  However, to prove this wasn’t the 70’s I noticed that now vinyl is sold by the GSM, much as quality of paper is.

Project LV One – Day 42 – crappy wifi

Another day another hotel and the wifi is shocking. I’m at the top of the hotel and I can only assume the base station is in the basement! I downloaded this image from Dropbox using 3G on this phone and the same image to my iPad using WIFI – I don’t think I need to say which was quicker.

The castle BTW is Laugharne Castle which is just around the corner from Dylan Thomas’ famous garden shed where he wrote Under Milkwood – this is a very pretty part of the world even when it is drizzling.

Project LV One – Day 40 – A horse… a horse my Kingdom for a horse….

20140602-IMG_001546

Whilst walking around Leicester this morning I came across this sign which made me chuckle.   The site of the world’s most famous car park is now the centre of frantic activity as the visitors centre takes shape.  Whilst across the road the Cathedral is getting a major face lift which will befit the final resting place  of one of the best known monarchs.  Anyone would think that a State funeral is going to happen soon.

Go, muster men. My counsel is my shield.
We must be brief when traitors brave the field
