Project LV One – Day 86 – Doodle

Disney Doodle

I find there is something really satisfying about making a quick Disney Doodle.  When you do this you come to realise that the creative minds behind each of these were not only great artists in their own right but also master technicians as they had to create characters that not only were able to portray the emotions demanded by the movie but also had to be very easy to draw.  In the days before computer aided animation every frame had to be drawn and coloured by hand and so to ensure that they moved smoothly the drawing had to be very simple.  They really did master the ability to emote with an economy of mark making.

Project LV One – Day 85 – An Experiment

An Experiment

Nothing like an experiment before breakfast.   Yesterday I found a wonderful artists and then discovered that she had a video on YouTube.  After thinking about things overnight I got up this morning and tried out what she had described and then realised it is how I make many of my drawings.  However, the difference is on acute observation and then working slowly until you have the image – something I am not very good at!

This image isn’t of anyone really as it was an exercise – now for breakfast as I am starving.

Project LV One – Day 84 – Moleskine

Halle Berry - Moleskine

I have noticed that a number of different people are using Moleskine sketch books and as I needed a new sketch book I thought I might give it a go.  The first thing I noticed was that they have put a name section at the start of the book – this just had to go as it is a waste of useful space.

Oh one final thing…the great looking – let’s hope it lives up to the hype – Guardians of the Galaxy theme tune – hooked on a feeling is really naff…I think I must buy it!

Project LV One – Day 83 – Lovelace

Amanda Seyfreid

Last night I watched the harrowing movie Lovelace.  I had heard that it was a hard watch – perhaps I’m just getting soft in my old age – and I wasn’t let down??.   The movie tells the life of the woman who became perhaps the most famous porn star of them all.  However, as she points out in the movie, she only worked in the pornography industry for 17 days, yet that is what she will always be remembered for.

What this film will start to make her remembered for was how she was used and abused by the men in her life – although her later life went a long way to doing this anyway.  Amanda Seyfried portrayal was moving and harrowing at the same time and clearly demonstrated that she can act beyond the limited roles she had undertaken up to then.  I understand that she found playing Linda emotionally draining and was able to recharge her batteries by her role of Cosette in Les Mis – two diametrically opposed roles if ever there was one.

This brings me to the drawing.  I have no idea why but I just don’t seem to be able to portray beautiful young woman to my own satisfaction.  Perhaps I shouldn’t have used ink as the medium for this drawing but I did and the result was disappointing.

This carping is really pathetic I know when compared to the hell that Linda Susan Boreman had to go through.  I just don’t know how lucky I am.

Project LV One – Day 82 – Return of the Energiser Bunny

Kirk Lois and Superman

The other night I had a fascinating conversation with a friend about painting.  My friend claimed that whilst wanting to paint there wasn’t anything nearby worth painting.  Nothing to inspire.  I really couldn’t understand this for me making images is part of my DNA and if I couldn’t create things I just couldn’t live.  A bit over dramatic I know but if I can’t be bit of a drama queen on my blog then where can I?

Yesterday I didn’t feel I had any energy and I just couldn’t put my finger on it.   Twenty minutes sitting down making these little sketches I realised the reason for all this lethargy.  I need to draw and sketch or very quickly things start to go wrong.  Well perhaps I’m not such a drama queen after all – ok hyperbole but what the heck I feel so much better for the evening sitting in front of the TV and making little sketches and it doesn’t meter if the sketches are no that good I feel better.

The moral of all this?   I don’t think there is one. So Yum Yum.

Take on Me

Project LV One – Day 81 – No Oomph

20140707-Photo 07-07-2014 14 42 22-Small

No real oomph in my life today…really struggling to get things done.  That being said I did set up the new Apple TV puck – the image quality on the latest version is so much better than the previous – even though it doesn’t seem to want to say hello to my keyboard.

I’ve also just about finished the next volume of the LV One project which hopefully will be off to Blurb tomorrow – just under a fortnight until I have to start volume 3 – the joys of trying to make a book a month.

Still I have little life at the moment – perhaps tomorrow will be an improvement – let’s hope so.

Project LV One – Day 79 & 80 – It’s complicated

20140712-Photo 12-07-2014 11 51 15 - Small Photo 11-07-2014 15 31 33-Edit

I’m not entirely sure where yesterday went but I missed it.  Most of the afternoon was spent painting and then it just got away from me.  Anyway today I walked around the new Cathedral Square at Leicester and I have to say it is a whole lot better than the old square which seemed to be the hang out of drunks and drugies.  Now the square has been redesigned and opened up thanks to a lot of money from Europe.  Of course it doesn’t help that possibly the most infamous/famous King in English history was found buried under a car park just across the road.  They new visitors centre is getting a final lick of paint and I suspect the whole thing will be ready in a week or so.   It will get another make over when the state funeral will take place of the of the resident of the car park in the Cathedral some time at the end of the year or perhaps next.  Strange how the world works.

Project LV One – Day 78 – Back to Brushes

Photo 10-07-2014 19 31 12-Edit

Trouble with making a painting is that it pulls you apart – well that is how I feel.   This was made using Brushes on the iPad and at one level I really like it – yet at another I find it very unsatisfactory as it just isn’t quite right – especially when you compare it to the painting that it is based on.  However, to correct the problems with this painting would have meant starting again or a major repaint and I have not got the energy for either.

Such are the joys of making art.
