Oops I did it again….the continuing Brexit Saga

One part of me is finding the whole unravelling of the Brexit vote quite funny, another  findings the whole thing saddening whilst a third makes me feel quite angry.   Let me recap:  In June 2016 Great Britain voted to leave the European Union and that is it.   Since then there has been a tsunami of people claiming to know what this vote means but the truth is that the only thing anybody knows is why they voted the way they did.   For me it was the realisation that the European Union is Great Britain’s largest trading partner and so it is in our long term interest to have a say in how the European Union is run so that we can trade on the terms that best suits us.    I accepted that this means compromises along the way but for me these were worth the costs.   Clearly other people thought differently and enough people thought this for a majority of people who voted to vote to leave.   I accept that.

What I don’t accept is that the right wing of the Tory party, nor UKIP nor the Daily Mail, Express or Telegraph have any right to exclusively define what leaving means.   They seem to have forgotten that the vote was close and instead act as though there was a landslide vote to leave.   There wasn’t.   Now we have a our rapidly disintegrating Prime Minister acting as though she has a huge mandate for anything she wants to do.   Yesterday saw this delusion collapse in front of her eyes when the House of Commons started to show the Government that it has every right to voice its opinion on what Brexit means.  In fact this was a key part of the leave argument that Parliament should be sovereign.  Yesterday saw the first rumblings of this argument being put into action and many of the Leave campaigners didn’t seem to like it “How Dare Parliament Question Brexit?” was a cry that could heard from the very same people who wanted Parliament to be sovereign…I think that can be described as ironic.

So we have a government in total disarray about Brexit; a Prime Minister who seems to be melting in front of our eyes as she tries to micromanage every aspect of the Government programme and perhaps worst of all the leader of the opposition who seems happiest talking to the converted rather than offering real opposition to this discredited shower of deck chair rearrangers.   I would cry if I wasn’t laughing with anger.

When the history of this is written nobody will believe it.  Surely they will ask this can’t be true?   The historian will point out that if you think this is nonsense then look what was happening in the most powerful country in the world at the same time where there was a possibility that the power to destroy the world could have been given to Donald Trump.

I think a large stiff drink is required.

Pencil v Pencil

fifth-element leeloo

Is it me or have you too had too much of Donald Trump?   I hope and pray they don’t elect him but I can’t take anymore.  Enough is Enough.

Anyway back on planet earth I made two sketches of LeeLoo from the wonderfully different scifi romp The Fifth Element – it is 20 years old next year!   One sketch was with pencil, paper and sharpie, the other with the Apple Pencil and it is interesting to compare and contrast.

Little Green

disco-death life-drawing-practice

As I write this Raiders of the Lost Ark is playing on iTunes, I’m not sure why I started with that but it somehow seemed appropriate or maybe Back to the Future would be even more so.   I am attending my first life drawing class in nearly two years and I have to say I am just a little apprehensive.  This partly because my art has moved away from actually painting with paints and partly because I eat something last night that didn’t agree with me so I feel just a little rough – like a hangover without the fun at the beginning.

I guess these two images sum up quite well where I am at the moment.  Both were created in the last 24 hours, one using my Apple Pencil and the other a real pencil.   We’ll have to see how I get through the session.

Complementary

Autumn seems to be coming much later this year.  Here we are in early October and most of the trees still have all their leaves.  The horse chestnuts are just starting to change but at this rate there won’t be any real frosts until November which is really late.   Thank goodness global warming isn’t happening or we might think that climate was changing. Phew.

Enough of the sarcasm for one post.   Today I was comparing and contrasting the relative merits of the iPhone SE camera against the Canon G1x.  An odd choice you may well say and you would be right but then these are my cameras of choice at the moment so I had little choice in the matter.   I think the best I can say is that they complement each other.   The Canon had the advantage of much larger files with acres of data to play with when compared to the iPhone.   On the other hand the exposure system in the iPhone is so much better than the Canon.   It would be far to point out that the G1x is now very long in the tooth and has been replaced by the mark 2.  However, the mark 2 has gone all electronic and I still prefer to have physical knobs to turn so I still think this is a better camera.

Of course they have totally different approaches to making images as well but I have abandoned the notion of trying to make images in camera with the iPhone so their different approaches don’t cause too many problems.

In short they do complement each other quite nicely and provide me with sufficient material to hit my target of three images per session.   They certainly worked well today at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire.  I have a load more images to work through so I expect to publish another set sometime soon.

I’ve had enough now….it is not funny anymore

black-haird-woman seen-too-much-for-man

It was fun for a while like the happy drunk in his twenties…however as the years went on the things that seemed so likeable in the past are just annoying and only he now seems to be the only one laughing at his pathetic jokes.  No More.

This is how I feel about the whole idea of Donald Trump.   It was funny at the start, certainly many comedians made me laugh at the thought,  but as we get closer to the election the thought of such a man having access to the nuclear launch codes is no longer a laughing matter, let alone the disgusting views he seems to have about anyone he thinks is less than him, you know everyone else.   I guess if I was an American voter the one question I would want answered above all else  is whether the next President s more or less likely to blow the world up?   On that simple test I think the answer is clear to me and most people outside the USA.  Unfortunately there is a significant number of people in the USA who don’t see things that way and some how think that a multi billionaire is working to make America great.  Well from my position outside of the USA America is still great and the only thing he will do is leave America resembling his failed casino in Atlantic City.   God help us all.
