As a young child I was so taken by the fact that there was a guardian angel watching over me. I am not sure whether this was a reassurance or a nuisance but I was told it was there and that is what I believed. As one’s life progresses other images replace the childlike thoughts of an angel watching over me and this becomes even more so the older you get and the realisation that perhaps there are now more days behind you than in front. Yesterday as I walked through Sileby church yard this caught my eye and I thought nothing more of it. Now having worked with the image for a short while it seems to take on greater meaning. Is it me or does this symbolise the dead waiting..
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 Corinthians 15:52
Of course it could also symbolise the pointlessness of religion as I am sure when the relatives of the dead ordered their gravestones they thought they would make the grave until the last Trump. Now they form a strange wall of remembrance for people not that long passed.
