I think I have done enough for one evening – time to think about where to go from here. As for the earlier portrait of Angelina Jolie I decided enough was enough and left it alone.

This may take several days or perhaps just one but this is the start – I’m excited to see how it may turn out – not sanguine at all about this (I’m sorry but I just had to write that!)

Now is the most difficult part – just when you think you have started to capture a likeness now is the tie set things down and reflect on what you have produced so far. What things work? What things don’t ?

I know this is a tired old cliche but it is exactly what I am doing. I felt I needed to revisit the basic skills of capturing a likeness and so it has been out with the reference books a reread the lessons on proportion. This is stage one – next will come the appliance of shade to give the portrait substance. I have learnt a lot or perhaps learnt stuff I should have known – either way the exercise is very useful

I suppose anyone who has attended a life drawing class will know the problem. You have just got the the outline of the model fixed on the page and everything is falling into the place and then the tutor decides that the model/students need a break. You come back and, try as you might, you just can’t get the model into the right place so all that work you put in was for nothing. This is what happened last night so I ended up with a half finished work. Such is life’s rich tapestry!

Well the new machine appears to be running ok…now I am trying to copy over the iTunes data which is easier said than done as the old laptop’s files are in a real mess. I have a plan to overcome this which should work…I think/hope?
Sent from my iPadStill going ahead with the installation …though strange dialog boxes keep appearing.
