Help from other WordPress users…Please

I have been using WordPress for just over a month now and I have to say I am very gratified by the number of people who have read my blog. However, this is where I would like your help.

How did you find my blog? I feel I am missing something as I cannot work out how to find other WordPress blogs. I suspect that there may well be part of the WordPress set up that I am missing out on. So if you do read this would you be so kind as to pop a comment down to explain how you found this blog – I really want to join in and your comments/advice would really help.

Thanks for your help.

studying the icicle

Start of a new day and whilst surveying my palatial gardens I noticed that the icicle hanging from my conservatory had changed over night. I’m not sure what conclusions to draw from this other than to say….well as I look at my screen I have nothing, nothing to say so perhaps it is just stuff. I think I need some breakfast.

A hint of a feeling

Just sitting here sketching away…getting a hint of the feeling of the subject I’m sketching….not really trying that hard to make it anything special. Just a hint.

There are some days when you just have to bow down to the raw power of nature

I know I’m a whinging old fart about the weather but the truth is it has really not effected me that much. Ok I wasn’t able to get to London today – well the galleries will be there next weekend or even the weekend after that. I am warm and dry with no real wants or needs so I think what I will be from now on in is more philosophical about the whole thing and bow down to the power of the weather.

We as humans like to thing we are the real power on this planet but we really aren’t. Yes we can blow things up and devastate the eco system but in the great scheme of things the earth could get all teenager on us and go ‘…been there done that…maa…’ . When nature wants to put us in our place it does it with remarkable ease and there is not a thing we can do about it.

So in future I think I’ll embrace icicles, well metaphorically at least, and just wonder at the power of the forces that hold this bundle of rock together. All power to Gaia.

Icicles on the car

So we had a plan, a perfectly robust plan – one that I have followed many times before which always go well. Get up early and drive into London for the day. It is only just over an hours drive on a weekend to the nearest tube station and so no real hassle. That is until the snow intervened.

The motorway was closed in both directions, due to an accident which meant that the side roads would have been overloaded. A detour along major routes was also disrupted due to another accident. In short what should have been a jolly day out was turning into a major logistical nightmare. So I cancelled the trip which was really disappointing not just for me but for my friends who were gong to travel with me.

As for the icicles they formed from the snow I’d cleared off of my car when I was getting ready to travel – I guess this shows how cold it was outside. Bummer.

Just how far to go…

I’m really not sure how much further to take this painting. I think I’ll leave it for a day and see what I feel then.

Walking in the Winter?? wonderland

I know I know I’m banging on about the weather but it was genuinely surreal walking through my local park this morning. On the ground was a slushy mess and the trees were covered in the same mess. It was really like February but it wasn’t in truth because all the time the sounds were those of the spring. Whilst there was a distant Wigeon whistling away it was drowned out by the birds singing for a mate. Goldfinches flitted overheard and the unmistakable song of the Great Tit pieced the air. The ground may still be winter but in truth the animals were already in spring. I guess they never got the memo.

Slush

Still snowing – but not really settling. I suspect if you surveyed the body of blogging work that is emanating from the British Isles this morning there would be a real bias towards weather and moaning about it.

However, sliver linings and all that it has given me time to work on the Tron Legacy painting. Somehow when it is really rubbish outside sitting in a darkened digital studio isn’t quite that bad.

Phew… what a difference a day makes

Well I think this proves that one should keep one’s mouth shut. Yesterday my only solace was that it wasn’t snowing. Today I don’t even have that. This is all caused by high pressure over Norway which is happily sucking cold air down from the Arctic and Siberia which means that the pleasant springs we get in England are replaced by the hard rapacious winters we should get given how close we are to the Arctic circle.

I could, of course, make a cheap joke about ‘…so much for global warming…’ but climate change is a much longer term thing than just seasonal weather variations. That being said seasonal unpredictability is another aspect of climate change so perhaps this might be a symptom after all. Great!
