Seedlings

Oh the joys of spring! With lambs frolicking in the meadow, the larks ascending and the swallows once more flying over the glen spring is finally with us.

Before we get all dewy eyed about the rural iddl in which I clearly live – nothing could be further from the truth – there is one thing that I always wonder at. The frantic struggle for life shown by plants, in this case sunflowers. They go from small seeds to plants up to 6 feet tall in the space of in less than 6 months. Such a force for life should give us all pause to consider how much we appreciate life – whether it is a gift or biological fact.

BTW I was brought up in a small village surrounded by countryside and I have to say I’m glad to be out of it. The countryside is a wonderful place to visit but give me the grimy diversity of city life any day.

Compton Verney

Had a great day at Compton Verney. The main exhibition was a bit hit miss, the early renaissance paintings were incredible, especially the Titian’s, but the later baroque works were not so impressive. Nonetheless a good exhibition if not as good of some of he exhibitions I’ve seen there.

Sometimes I just dispare

So it was a simply glorious day today, the sun was out, wind was pleasantly refreshing what better conditions could there be for a walk in the country? Well not much of a walk as I’m still not 100% but getting a lot better, but I went a walk this afternoon through some of the oldest human landscapes in Leicestershire/Lincolnshire – the Drift at Wyville. This is also a site of scientific interest. In short it is a wonderful to take a leisurely. That, of course, is not how some of our more corrupt members of society see it. No they see it as a place to fly tip their rubbish, or discarded proceeds of crime. So not only was there a toilet cistern but the plastic insulation from copper wire which, I suspect, had been stolen from the local railway line. Oh aren’t we a wonderful people!

Anyway, if you can get pass the rubbish it really is a fascinating part of the world to explore with bronze age barrows, ancient track ways and the enigmatically named ‘King Lud’s Entrenchment’. Perhaps not Salisbury Plain but nonetheless captivating.

Another day another cup of coffee

Well I’ve just taken my new coffee bean grinder out for its first test run and I have to say I’m loving it. Not only does the coffee taste wonderful but the kitchen has a lovely aroma of coffee. Yum Yum.

Cold Case Photography

Deep time seems to be seeping through me. I revisited the first photographs I made for this project some two and half years ago and quite frankly they were just not good enough. They certainly didn’t fit with the images I made yesterday so I reworked the images and came up with these. The interesting things is that these were captured with my old Canon G10 which demonstrates that by the Autumn of 2010 I had all but given up with all my heavy camera gear and moved in a total different creative direction. The image quality is really quite good but you can still see the difference with the G1x, which is hardly surprising, but at least they now have the same look and feel going forward.
