I have an itch and I finally decided to scratch it. I’ve just spent and hour or so trying to make an interesting digital painting of a wild horse. I have no idea why I want to do this as I’m not a great horsey person but who knows why things keep bubbling up from our sub conscious. This is a first stab so it will interesting to see where it takes me.

| Last night I watched yet another fascinating programme by Professor Alice Roberts on ‘What makes us human’. It was the usual mix of morkish, sentimental shots of the Professor walking by new born children and their parents looking on all dewy eyed (in a scene that could have been lifted from the script of the next Nicholas Sparks inspired movie), she was pregnant at the time and this was part of the hook of the programme. It was total pap and I feel the good professor must have been contractually obliged to do this. The reasons for me saying this is two fold: firstly she did a wonderfully professional piece to camera whilst having an ultrasound scan of her unborn child, always an emotional time, yet the piece she did was worthy of David Attenborough at his best; secondly she spent a couple of minutes dissecting a human brain and then slicing it into small pieces without a seconds thought (she is after all a medical doctor and a real Doctor, holding a PhD) – so why the morkish nonsense whilst she did a voice over?…I suspect a small amount of dumbing down not by her but the producer.
Whilst on the subject of brain slicing I had the first part of a follow up work on root canal surgery yesterday and that felt like I had my brain sliced. This is no reflection on my dentist, who is wonderful, but just having someone rummaging about in your jaw is not going to be on many people’s bucket list. Part two is next Wednesday…can’t wait. | Well I did the full multiplex this afternoon, watched a movie whilst consuming a hot dog, confectioneries and soda and boy am I regretting it now! However, I guess the other people who I shared the cinema wouldn’t have seen this as a problem as I probably raised the average age by around 20 years!
Still as for the movie, This is the End, if you like Seth Rogan movies then this is one for you. The story is almost irrelevant but Seth and his friends are trapped in a house when the Apocalypse takes place. There are some nice touches, especially liked the Exorcist homage, but overall it was a Seth Rogan movie so you know exactly what you get – hardly Shakespeare or F. Scott Fitzgerald but in the end I came out with a smile on my face other than wondering who the band was at the end? I guess the young kids around my knew in a heart beat. Oh the joys of getting old. Is this Channing Tatum’s finest performance? Oh and I’ve just looked it up on the IMDB and the Boy Band is Back Street Boys…however they are (Ha Ha) Simon Marchini |
| It is a while now since I’ve just sat down and did a bit of harmless sketching from something I’ve seen on the tele and I really enjoyed this. Over the past few days I’ve been doing a lot of writing which I really don’t enjoy and if the truth be known I probably won’t finish because it seems to be consuming most of creative RAM. I keep forgetting that I don’t have to do any of these things if I don’t want to and that life is about enjoyment,

| For reasons I won’t go into I have the use of a rather fast, Red, BMW Sports saloon this weekend. So where to go to in this fire-breather? What exotic location should we choose? I know we’ll go to Flag Fen to look at pieces of wood found below metres of silt at Peterborough – what could be more exotic than that?!
