Today is the day

Here we go again. Today is the day that Apple announce whatever upgrade to the iPhone is. Will it be 5s or 6 or perhaps something altogether different? Perhaps they might fool everyone and launch a new iPad…now that would be a hoot and demonstrate yet again that the so called ‘experts’ know just about as much as anyone else (this story just about sums the whole situation up http://techland.time.com/2013/09/10/when-the-iphone-experts-speak-ignore-em/)

For me the bigger news will be the launch of the latest version of iOS. This has a much more important impact on Apple going forward as it would set the look and feel of the whole range of products for perhaps the next 5 years. Of course it will also have a built in obsolescence element to it which will mean you have to buy the latest product (think of any iPhone before the 4 or iPad 1) but it also dictate how all the Apple products work together as well as the wider world (iTunes).

So for what it is worth I think the new iPhone will have a faster chip, better battery management, more memory as standard and improved photographic software. Beyond that only Apple knows but I suspect there wont be much more than that as much of the improvement in the product will be as a result of iOS 7. But then again what the hell do I know?

Making a painting is like having an itch and you just can’t get to scratch it.  Just as you think you’ve got the point of the irritation it moves and you have to try again.    This is the progress to date of a painting that is taking a long time to focus…guess I’ll just keep scratching.

After much correction this nude is starting to take form.  It is part of my prep work for the next life drawing sessions…I want to try and do a much better fist of things than I did last week.  One of the ways to do this is to practice – hence this Brushes painting.

Long Distance Runaround

Oh we all have them…days where you just can’t get going.  Days where everything is such an effort.  Well today is one of them – yesterday everything was so easy – today..well that was the case until I watched another from the wonderful series What do artists do all day.  This episode was about the one man show that is John Byrne.  The man is clearly a force of nature and I suddenly felt the need to make an image of him.

John ByrneI have made images of him before and every time it is rewarding.   I’ve now finished and suddenly all the energy has washed away but whilst working on this painting I felt alive – now I’m feeling my age.   Still the good thing about all this is that I know tomorrow it will be different again.   Oh raindrops keep falling on my head.

Practice

As a means of proving to myself that I actually can still do it I decided to make a painting of a similar pose as the art life drawing last night.  Needless to say the type of images I found when searching for Nude Woman Sitting weren’t how the model sat yesterday.  Eventually I found something with is a rough approximation to last night.Life Drawing

Of course I can take my time with this which is not a luxury I have at the life drawing sessions.  Also the model won’t keep moving which is a bit of a bonus!
