Well one down one to go. I’ve decided to sell my Sony NEX5n. But before you think that I think the camera isn’t any good this would be far of the mark. The Sony NEX5n is one of the best cameras that I have owned. It is just that it doesn’t fit into the way that I make photographs anymore. For me I need a camera that is pocketable – such as the iPhone is. Now I had thought of abandoning ‘proper’ photography all together for the iPhone but have come to realise that would be a mistake. I have been at this photography game for almost 40 years now and would be lost if I didn’t have a proper camera at hand. For all the power of the iPhone and the apps it isn’t a very good camera in fact it is bloody awful. However in a cloud world it makes sense to use a camera that can easily feed into this but it really does have significant limitations when you go beyond its comfort zone.
So if one decision has been made what is the second one? Well I have to decide between the Canon G15 or the G1x. Both fit my needs going forward the question is whether I want the better image quality of the G1x over a larger ISO range than the G15. I’m not sure yet but hopefully over the next few days I’ll come up some answers.
Watch this space.
BTW the image is one of the 615, yes 615 images I have captured with the Sony NEX5n. My god 615 is that all I’ve taken with this camera? Well probably closer to 1000 as I’ve deleted a quite a few due to the usual editing process. But 1000 is still nothing over 18 months!
