If there is one thing I have learnt about painting is that it cannot be rushed.  I was once told that when you start a painting you need to have some idea or goal to work towards and I guess this is correct as far as it goes.  However,  as an approach it sucks some of the excitement out as the journey I embark on as I never have a clue where the painting will end up.  I suspect if you are a professional who has to earn his or her living from pleasing a client/patron/oligarch then it might be different.  For that isn’t the case as I just have to please myself which I now is very self indulgent but there we go.

It could also mean that I am not a professional painter and I would be happy to agree to that, in fact that could be motto ” follow this blog if you want to see  painting that is not professional…”.  But then again I have seen too much modern art to realise that is something could be applied to most artistic endeavours.
