Last night I watched the harrowing movie Lovelace. I had heard that it was a hard watch – perhaps I’m just getting soft in my old age – and I wasn’t let down??. The movie tells the life of the woman who became perhaps the most famous porn star of them all. However, as she points out in the movie, she only worked in the pornography industry for 17 days, yet that is what she will always be remembered for.
What this film will start to make her remembered for was how she was used and abused by the men in her life – although her later life went a long way to doing this anyway. Amanda Seyfried portrayal was moving and harrowing at the same time and clearly demonstrated that she can act beyond the limited roles she had undertaken up to then. I understand that she found playing Linda emotionally draining and was able to recharge her batteries by her role of Cosette in Les Mis – two diametrically opposed roles if ever there was one.
This brings me to the drawing. I have no idea why but I just don’t seem to be able to portray beautiful young woman to my own satisfaction. Perhaps I shouldn’t have used ink as the medium for this drawing but I did and the result was disappointing.
This carping is really pathetic I know when compared to the hell that Linda Susan Boreman had to go through. I just don’t know how lucky I am.
