European Rugby

I have been following the story of the withdrawal of the English and French rugby teams from the now probably defunct Heineken Cup with great interest. Not because of the rights or otherwise of the arguments on either side but rather the very bias reporting in the Times newspaper.

At first I couldn’t understand why the paper had taken such an anti break up stance until I realised that any new competition is likely to have BT sports as the main TV company and not SKY sports which of course is partially owned by good old Rupert Murdoch..nothing like a conflict of interests here yet not a pep is mentioned in The Times coverage. Strange that.

PS. I do hope some form of solution is found to the impasse – however I doubt it and I expect the Irish, Welsh, Scots and Italian clubs to come calling to the Anglo French table – perhaps not next season but the season after, that is if any of these teams manage to survive that long without the English and French competition – lets face it for the Celtic teams it is probably the English teams they want to play and beat and so generate the most gate receipts etc from fans that also want to see that .
